The Great Alaska Council

Initially chartered by the National BSA organization in 1955, although Scouting existed in Alaska long before that. The Council currently serves over 8,000 youth members and over 1,500 adult volunteers in communities throughout southeast, central and western Alaska, serving over 90% of the state's population.

The Council operates two long-term summer camps at the Rasmuson Scout Reservation on Mirror Lake to meet the needs of three distinct groups of Scouts. Camp Carlquist was established in 1993 as the long-term resident camp for Cub Scout age boys 7 through 10 years of age with facilities and activities designed specifically for this age group. Camp Gorsuch has been in operation since 1955 as the long-term resident camp for Boy Scouts ages 11 through 14. The Council is also building a Denali High Adventure Base for young men and women ages 14 to 20.
