NRA Range Safety Officer Course

Saturday November 9, 2019

9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Camp Gorsuch, cost $50.

Range Safety Officers supervise a shooting range.  Participants who successfully complete this course are eligible to be certified by the National Rifle Association as RSOs.

This is not a shooting course and shooting knowledge and skills are not a requirement, although they might be helpful.  The NRA requires that all RSOs be 21 years of age or over.  RSOs are not required to be NRA members.

The Scouts require that an RSO be present and supervising activities at many shooting activities: including merit badge classes, troop or district  shooting events, BSA Cowboy Action and Pistol Program activities, among others.  Shooting sports merit badges are popular; the Rifle Shooting Merit is the second most popular non-Eagle required merit badge; in 2018 almost 38,000 Scouts earned it.  More than 20,000 earned the Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge.  Your Council Shooting Sports Committee encourages units and Districts to organize and run their own shooting sports events under BSAs national requirements.

For more information about this course and to register please call or email Ernie Mueller at 209-4618, ernie.mueller@gci.net.  The NRA requires a minimum of 4 participants and there is a maximum of ten.
