Scouting for Food Collection Day
When: In conjunction with the Food Bank of Alaska, this year’s Scouting for Food drive will take place on Saturday, April 14th. This year’s goal is to collect 50,000 pounds! This is a great service project for your unit. Packs and Troops should start planning for this event now!
What/How: Units should canvas their local neighborhoods with doorhangars starting the week of April 7th, 2018. Remember where you went as food should be picked up between 9:00AM and 1:00PM on April 14th and taken to one of the trailers at their local Fred Meyer.
Fred Meyer/Trailer locations:
- Abbott (2300 Abbott Rd, Anchorage)
- Dimond (2000 W Dimond Blvd, Anchorage)
- Northern Lights (1000 E Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage)
- Muldoon (7701 Debarr Road, Anchorage)
- Eagle River (13401 Old Glenn Hwy, Eagle River)
- Wasilla (1501 E. Parks Hwy, Wasilla)
- Soldotna (43843 Sterling Hwy, Soldotna)
- Juneau (8181 Glacier Hwy, Juneau)
Pick-up locations will be manned for assistance from 10:30AM-4:00PM on April 14th.
Store signups: Besides collecting food in your neighborhoods, we need Troops to man the trailers (Northern Lights is already covered) and Cub Scout Packs to man the door entrances at each store (ideally 2 packs per store). Hours of operation will be 10:30AM to 4:00PM at each location.
Recommended minimum coverage is 4 Scouts and 2-3 adults at each location, 2-3 shifts are suggested. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts manning store entrances should plan on being outside. Wear your uniform and dress accordingly.
In Anchorage and Eagle River, you can sign up for a store location on a first come first serve basis at the Scout Shop (3117 Patterson St, Anchorage, AK 99504). In the MatSu Valley and Southeast Alaska, please contact your District Coordinator. Door Hangars will be available for handout at the Scout Office, and District Committee Meetings, and at District Roundtables.
